V..I.Pace Runners Bulletin # 1-4-08 Children line-up for their 1st Road Race of the new year After and exciting and competitive cross-country season ending in November, the top children who participate in these races took part in the 20th Annual Children Race which traditionally starts at the beginning of the Children’s Parade. This race on the road along the festival parade route was exciting to watch and very competitive. The first place finisher (race was for boys and girls 13 and under and under 10 years of age) was Jamie Harper from Wilmington, Deleware. It was his first race in St. Croix and his time was 2 minutes and 25 seconds. Malique Smith of the St.Croix Track Club, the winner of the under 10 division last year, move up in the age grouping and chopped nearly a minute of his time in the 2007 race finishing second in 2:29. Evan Wareheim of Country Day School was third in 3:13. Karen Dascent of The Jr. Barracudas Track Club was the first place female 13 and under, her time was 2:45; Jazmine Willock of the St.Croix Track Club was second in 2:58. It was a very tight race for the under 10 boys as Barthtelemy Peter and Rodney Griffin SCTC cross the finish line together resulting in an official tie for first place in 2:59; De Quan Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club and came across next with a time of 3:05 followed by Crispin Shakeem of Eulalie Rivera Elementary School in 3:11. Mikaella Smith of the St.Croix Track Club took first place for girls under ten with a time of 3:00; Stephaney Mathew of SCTC was second in 3:05 and Aniqua Benders of SCTC was third in 3:15. For immediate release January 6 2006 Charley and Thomas go 1-2 for girls 8 year-old Malique Smith lead the boys in the annual Children Race…Vieques visitors show strength with high placing… Wyn Charley and Khra Thomas of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club almost tied at the finish for the overall victory in the Children Race in Frederiksted to kick-off the Children’s Day Parade with Charley wining in 2 minutes and 36 seconds for the 800 meter run down King St. and the parade route; Thomas was second just hundreds of a second later. Wildallys Hiro Arillan of Vieques, Puerto Rico was third in 2:39; Andrea Wynter of the HFTC was fourth in 2:47 and Kran Dascent of the Burnley Dragons Track Club was fifth and the first place finisher for girls under 10 years old in 3:03. Eight year old Malique Smith, of the BDTC was the top male runner with a time of 2:40; Mariano Marcelino of Vieques was second in 2:42; Salier Miro was third in 2:45; and Dennis Vanterpool was fourth in 4:39. For immediate release January 7, 2005 Thomas Wins The Children Race at Start of Annual Parade Ten year old Khyra Thomas of the Hounds & Foxes Track Club was the first place finisher in the 18th Annual Children Race on Saturday in Frederiksted with a time of 3 minutes and 6 seconds over the half-mile distance down King Street. Three fourths of the way, nine year old Jazmine Willock moved into second place ahead of the early leader Sydney Rogers to finish second in 3:12 to Rogers 3:13 to make a Hounds and Foxes sweep of the first three places. Seven year old Johnathon Doward of the Heatwave Track Club was the first place male with a time of 3:33; Jamal Brewester was second in 3:54 and Dennis Vanterpool was third in 4:50 for a Heatwave sweep of the three places for boys. Tomorrow the 3Kings Mile will be held at the start of the Adult Parade at 10am at Claude O. Markoe School. |

Even the Governor was Impressed... 01/02/04 Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands--At the corner of King and Fisher Streets in Frederiksted and 800 meters away is the Review Stand for the annual Crucian Festival Parade and the finish of the annual Children Race and the 3Kings Mile (takes place the next day). A select group lined up for the 17th running the Children Race with hundreds of parade watchers taking notice as the festivities began. The Governor and Lt. Governor arrived just in time to see the finish and to present signed certificates to the fine young runners. Thirteen year-old Hansel Estapan of John H. Woodson Junior High School ran a masterful race as he broke away early with absolutely perfect form to win in 2 minutes and 24 seconds. His teammate, Jose Reyes was second in 2:28. Allison Peter, eleven years old with the V.I.Express Track Club, also with an excellent performance, was the first place girl finisher and third overall with a time of 2:30; Mackiesh Taylor of the Junior Barracudas Track Club was second in 2:36; Andrea Wynter, Hounds and Foxes Track Club was third in 2:48; Sydnei Rogers, Hounds and Foxes TC was fourth in 3:06; Cheynae Rogers, Hounds and Foxes TC was fifth in 3:17. Thirteen year old Lowman took the lead early in the half-mile race and won with an excellent time of 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Brin Goldman Results The Children Race 1998 Frederiksted 01/02/98 Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Adrian Durant and Evelise Gomez showed why they most probably will become the Virgin Islands elite runners, when today they set Virgin Islands national age records for the 800 meter distance, "The Children Race" in Frederiksted. Durant of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club, coached by Charles Golphin, stopped the clock 2 minutes flat to become the fastest thirteen-year old ever to run that fast in the V.I. Gomez, of the V.I. Express Track Club, coached by Raymond Stevens, a twelve years old, surpassed her own race and course record to finish first for females and second in the race overall with an excellent time of 2 minutes 20 seconds. Reuben Gomez, the younger brother of Evelise, finished second for the boys in 2:22.80; Aaron George was third in 2:53.81; Copley Evans was fourth in 2:55.44; Delroy Byron was fifth in 3:06.37. Evilyse has now won three road races in a row at distances of one mile and under: The St. Croix Metric Mile, The Children Race and The 3 Kings Mile. Twelve year old Adrian Durant, known for his sprinting and jumping abilities, showed the festive crowed that he can run longer. His time of 2:32 is excellent for his age. January 7, 1996 Thirty eight children ran in the annual “The Children Race” down King St. on Saturday before the start of the Children’s Parade. Seant Smith and Merle Charlery took the honors for first place for boys and girls respectively in the older category and Jason Williams and Micah Boyce led the younger participants. All the participants ranging from ages 4 to 13 with one participant, a 1 year old in a stroller, completed the half-mile course down King St. Christiansted. 9 to 13 year old finishers boys: 1.
