27th Annual Children
Race...First Race of the New Year...
As the Virgin Islands makes the transition from
cross-country to road running and track and field seasons, the first road
race of the year is the Children Race.
The 27th annual event, an 800 meter jaunt down King Street
on the rout of the parade, took place in Frederiksted and as is the
tradition kicked-off the annual Crucian Festival Children’s Parade.
Valence Modeste
with the St.Croix Track Club and a winner of a number of the elementary
cross-country races was the first place finisher in the race with a time of
2 minute 17 seconds.
Mikaela Smith also of the St.
Croix Track Club also had an impressive performance as she was just a few
100ths of a second off the race record set by Evelize Gomez and the first
place female finisher in 2:21 and she was second overall.
In the 6 to 9 year-old age group James Beck (2:45) of
Freewill Baptist and Michele Smith (3:03) of the St. Croix Track Club took
the honors and in the 1 to 5 year-old age group, Collin Appleyard (3:50) and
Serena Sheraw (5:05) were the winners.

Jan. 4, 2013--St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Runners in the 26th Annual Children have the honor of leading-off the annual Crucian Christmas Festival Children’s Parade. This year was special as it was the 60th celebration of the annual festival.
New male and female winners of the race over the 800meter (half-mile) course down the parade route to the finish at Fort Frederik emerged this year. Nyhne Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club took top honors as he covered the distance with a time of 2 minutes 6 seconds; his team mate Lamar Miller was second in 2:19 and Valance Modest of the St. Croix Track Club was third in 2:20. They represented the 13 and under group.
The under 10 boys were led to the finish by 8 year old James Beck of Freewill Baptist School with time of 2:50; his younger brother Stephen was second with time of 3:02 and Messe Hatcher of Good Hope School was a close third in 3:02.

Rachel Conhoff of SCTC led all the girls to the finish as she finished fifth overall in the race with a time of 2:24; Krystahl Gordon SCTC was second in 2:38 and Amanda Boissierre of HFTC was third in 3:12 They represented the 13 and under group.
Michelle Smith of SCTC was the first place under 10 girl finisher and she finished third overall for girls with a time of 2:57; Abyssinia Tzaddi of HFTC was second in 3:12 and Opan Beck FWBS was third in 3:22

24th Annual Children Race...
1/7/11--St.Croix, Virgin Islands--Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club ran a new race and course record in the 24th running of the V.I.Pace Runners Children Race at the Children’s Parade of the Crucian Christmas Festival on Friday. Smith led a wave of red and black uniforms of the St.Croix Track Club which had the most runners in the in the annual event which kicks off the annual Children’s Parade down King Street over a distance of 800meters (1/2 mile). His time of 1 minute 58 seconds was the fastest ever in the race for children 13 and under. Smith’s teammate, Rodney Griffin was second in 2:12 and Nyhne Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club was third in 2:19.
Shamiyah Burke of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club was the first female with atime of 2:27; Annika Benders of the SCTC was second and Denishwa Ilarraza SCTC was third in 2:33. .
Valence Modeste of the St. Croix Track Club was the first male under 10 in 2:27; Rafeal Jackson also of SCTC was second in 3:17 and Damien Victorin of HFTC was third in 3:59.

Children romp down King St. parade route in The Children Race…
January 1, 2010--St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Rodney Griffin of the St. Croix Track Club and Eulalie Rivera School led the runners to the finish line at Fort Frederik on New Year’s Day in the 23rd Annual Children Race. His time was 2:32. Nyhne Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club was second in 2:39 and Eddie Marcelline of John H. Woodson School was third in 2:52.
Anika Benders of the SCTC was the first female finisher in the race and the winner of the under 10 girls, her time was 2:40; Stephanie Mathews was the second female finisher and the second under 10 girl in 2:52.
Karen Dascent of WS was the first 13 and under female in 2:57; Udelka Acevedo was second in 3:07 and Kiana Tonge of WS was third in 3:11

1-2-09 St.Croix,Virgin Islands--If you are a child you have to love it when the Police block the most popular and historic in the town of Frederiksted and they let you race a half mile from one end of the street to the other…
It happened again just at the start of the Children’s Parade at the Crucian Christmas Festival. The race was boys and girls thirteen and under and 9 and under. Eleven year-old Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club led the way as he won his age-group for the second year in a row, and first place overall with a time of 2 minutes 20 seconds. Rodney Griffith also of SCTC was second in 2:31 and ten year-old Barthelemy Peter of the Hounds & Foxes Track Club was third in 2:58.
Jasmine Willock of The St. Croix Track led the females to the finish line in 2:47; Precious Wattley was second in the 13 and under girls in 3:05; Jaden Jackson was third in 3:07.
Nyan Daniel of St.Patrick’s School led the under ten boys in 3:16; Sevon Washington of Hounds and Foxes Track Club was second in 3:20 and Christopher Ramcharan Hounds and Foxes was third in 3:50
Mikaela Smith at seven year-old was the first girl in the under ten group and fourth overall in the race with a time2:50; Anika Benders of SCTC was second in 2:58 and Stephanie Mathew also of SCTC was third in 3:04.
V..I.Pace Runners Bulletin # 1-4-08 Children line-up for their 1st Road Race of the new year
After and exciting and competitive cross-country season ending in November, the top children who participate in these races took part in the 20th Annual Children Race which traditionally starts at the beginning of the Children’s Parade. This race on the road along the festival parade route was exciting to watch and very competitive. The first place finisher (race was for boys and girls 13 and under and under 10 years of age) was Jamie Harper from Wilmington, Deleware. It was his first race in St. Croix and his time was 2 minutes and 25 seconds. Malique Smith of the St.Croix Track Club, the winner of the under 10 division last year, move up in the age grouping and chopped nearly a minute of his time in the 2007 race finishing second in 2:29. Evan Wareheim of Country Day School was third in 3:13.
Karen Dascent of The Jr. Barracudas Track Club was the first place female 13 and under, her time was 2:45; Jazmine Willock of the St.Croix Track Club was second in 2:58.
It was a very tight race for the under 10 boys as Barthtelemy Peter and Rodney Griffin SCTC cross the finish line together resulting in an official tie for first place in 2:59; De Quan Daniel of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club and came across next with a time of 3:05 followed by Crispin Shakeem of Eulalie Rivera Elementary School in 3:11.
Mikaella Smith of the St.Croix Track Club took first place for girls under ten with a time of 3:00; Stephaney Mathew of SCTC was second in 3:05 and Aniqua Benders of SCTC was third in 3:15.

In the Children’s Race held on Friday, Nine year old Malique Smith dominated the Children Race to take first place in 2:28; Felix Navarro was second in 2:32 and Christoph Wilson was third in 2:59. Wyn Charley and Khra Thomas of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club almost tied at the finish for the overall victory in the Children Race in Frederiksted to kick-off the Children’s Day Parade with Charley wining in 2 minutes and 36 seconds for the 800 meter run down King St. and the parade route; Thomas was second just hundreds of a second later. Wildallys Hiro Arillan of Vieques, Puerto Rico was third in 2:39; Andrea Wynter of the HFTC was fourth in 2:47 and Kran Dascent of the Burnley Dragons Track Club was fifth and the first place finisher for girls under 10 years old in 3:03.
Eight year old Malique Smith, of the BDTC was the top male runner with a time of 2:40; Mariano Marcelino of Vieques was second in 2:42; Salier Miro was third in 2:45; and Dennis Vanterpool was fourth in 4:39.

Thomas Wins The Children Race at Start of Annual Parade
Ten year old Khyra Thomas of the Hounds & Foxes Track Club was the first place finisher in the 18th Annual Children Race on Saturday in Frederiksted with a time of 3 minutes and 6 seconds over the half-mile distance down King Street. Three fourths of the way, nine year old Jazmine Willock moved into second place ahead of the early leader Sydney Rogers to finish second in 3:12 to Rogers 3:13 to make a Hounds and Foxes sweep of the first three places.
Seven year old Johnathon Doward of the Heatwave Track Club was the first place male with a time of 3:33; Jamal Brewester was second in 3:54 and Dennis Vanterpool was third in 4:50 for a Heatwave sweep of the three places for boys.
Tomorrow the 3Kings Mile will be held at the start of the Adult Parade at 10am at Claude O. Markoe School.

The Children Race....
01/02/04 Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands--At the corner of King and Fisher Streets in Frederiksted and 800 meters away is the Review Stand for the annual Crucian Festival Parade and the finish of the annual Children Race and the 3Kings Mile (takes place the next day). A select group lined up for the 17th running the Children Race with hundreds of parade watchers taking notice as the festivities began. The Governor and Lt. Governor arrived just in time to see the finish and to present signed certificates to the fine young runners.
Thirteen year-old Hansel Estapan of John H. Woodson Junior High School ran a masterful race as he broke away early with absolutely perfect form to win in 2 minutes and 24 seconds. His teammate, Jose Reyes was second in 2:28. Allison Peter, eleven years old with the V.I.Express Track Club, also with an excellent performance, was the first place girl finisher and third overall with a time of 2:30; Mackiesh Taylor of the Junior Barracudas Track Club was second in 2:36; Andrea Wynter, Hounds and Foxes Track Club was third in 2:48; Sydnei Rogers, Hounds and Foxes TC was fourth in 3:06; Cheynae Rogers, Hounds and Foxes TC was fifth in 3:17. Khyra Thomas, Hounds and Foxes TC was the first place 9 and under finisher in 3:17 and Vielka White, V.I. Express TC was second in 3:17.
The 3Kings Mile starts at 11am at the Claude O. Markoe School. The race is open to all with awards to overall male and female finishers and age groups winners.

01/05/01 Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands---Thomas Morton was the first place finnisher in the Annual Children Race held at the start of the Children's Parade in Christiansted, St.Croix, his time was 2 minutes 37 seconds as he edged out J'Kinde Goodwin who was second in 2:39. Jnuru Goodwin was first in the under 10 category and third overall in 2:50; Calvin Dascent was fourth in 2:55 and Alex Bradbury was second in the under 10 category in 3:14.

01/07/00 Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Miles Lowman and Jawana Goodwin were the male and female victors in the annual V.I.Pace Runners "Children Race", at the start of the Children's Parade in Frederiksted on Friday. Thirteen year old Lowman took the lead early in the half-mile race and won with an excellent time of 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Jawana Goodwin, also 13 led the girls across the finish line at Fort Frederik, down King St., the St.Croix Festival parade route. Morgan Locke was the second male finisher in 2:20; Shelby Cruz was the female finisher in 2:37; Travis Morton was the third male in 2:41; 6 year old Nicole Galiber was the third female in 4:50.

Express Track Club, took the first place medal with an outstanding time of 2 minutes and 25 seconds in the annual Children Race of Friday at the start of the Children's Parade in Christiansted. The small field of runners were tight through the 400 meter mark with Loman and Jawana Goodwin, of the St. Croix Track Club and the first place female with a race time of 2:29.18. leading the way. Morgan Lock of Good Hope School was the second male in 2:43.28; Howard O'Bryan of V.I. Express was third in 2:43.79. Evalise Gomez of Arthur Richards Jr.High School, the winner the past two years, was the second female in 2:37.37; Shelby Cruz was third in 3:14.03.

01/02/98 Frederiksted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands--Adrian Durant and Evelise Gomez showed why they most probably will become the Virgin Islands elite runners, when today they set Virgin Islands national age records for the 800 meter distance, "The Children Race" in Frederiksted.
Durant of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club, coached by Charles Golphin, stopped the clock 2 minutes flat to become the fastest thirteen-year old ever to run that fast in the V.I. Gomez, of the V.I. Express Track Club, coached by Raymond Stevens, a twelve years old, surpassed her own race and course record to finish first for females and second in the race overall with an excellent time of 2 minutes 20 seconds.
Reuben Gomez, the younger brother of Evelise, finished second for the boys in 2:22.80; Aaron George was third in 2:53.81; Copley Evans was fourth in 2:55.44; Delroy Byron was fifth in 3:06.37.
Jawana Goodwin, of the St. Croix Track Club, coached by Cipriani Phillip was the second girl in 2:23.90; Cassilda Jhero was third in 2:30.23; Ifama Francis fourth in 2:53.39 and Dallas Henderson fifth in 4:21.43.

1997 Eleven year old Evelise Gomez of the V.I.Express Track Club performed the “Hat Trick” as she led the field of girls from ages 13 and under across the finish line in 2 minutes and 34 seconds just two seconds behind the overall winner Adrian Durant of the Hounds & Foxes Track Club in 2:32 and 2 seconds ahead of her big sister Xamara Gomez of the same club in 2:34. Evilyse has now won three road races in a row at distances of one mile and under: The St. Croix Metric Mile, The Children Race and The 3 Kings Mile.
Twelve year old Adrian Durant, known for his sprinting and jumping abilities, showed the festive crowed that he can run longer. His time of 2:32 is excellent for his age. Results The Children Race
Thirty eight children ran in the annual “The Children Race” down King St. on Saturday before the start of the Children’s Parade. Seant Smith and Merle Charlery took the honors for first place for boys and girls respectively in the older category and Jason Williams and Micah Boyce led the younger participants. All the participants ranging from ages 4 to 13 with one participant, a 1 year old in a stroller, completed the half-mile course down King St. Christiansted.
