Here Betsy gives a lecture hosted by the St. Croix Environmental Association
on the birds Southgate Pond earlier in the Summer at the University of the
Virgin Islands--St.Croix Campus...Bill, her husband, has collaborated with
Betsy on numerous science projects to benefit the Virgin Islands and
St.Croix in particular...here he is in the projected photo standing on the
beach...Bill and Betsy were faculty members at the Farleigh Dickinson--West
Indies Lab for many years...Betsy was the Director when hurricane Hugo
caused major destruction to the facility...they fought hard to see the
facility refurbished and back into service, despite the wishes of the home
university which chose not to reopen it...

Betsy
Gladfelter was the first woman to represent the Virgin Islands in the World
Cross-Country Championships...She competed in 1984 at the Meadowlands in New
Jersey, the first time the event was ever held in the Western
Hemisphere...she was the only woman for the V.I. and was joined by Marlon
Williams, Greg Johnson, Ralix Clovis and Wallace Williams to make up the V.I.
National Team...She competed again in 1986 in Neuchatel, Switzerland...

Betsy has won the V.I.Half-Marathon more than any woman ever...
here she wins in St.Thomas in the earlier 80's...
See her name on the Mc Donald's Cup at Mc Donald's La Rein, this honor was
bestowed on the top male and female winner of the Mc Donald's
Half-Marathon...
Bill
has strong finish in V.I.'s most historic long distance race...The 24th
Gatorade Virgin Islands
Half-Marathon Freedom Run...
