The 19th Annual
Saturday October 18, 6am
You can join in paying
tribute to Bill and Betsy by showing up and running the race on Saturday of
course...you can also send your thoughts to them on the web page set-up just
for that... Quotes:
"My husband, Bill Gladfelter, has always encouraged me to follow my
visions and turn them into concrete realities; he also continues to share
with me explorations of the natural world, which we love. Through our
travels, observations, and musings, we have pondered how nature works.
Through our teaching and research, we have tried to share some of these
insights with others". "While I learned how to do formal scientific research at Stanford, my strength (according to my graduate advisor, Len Muscatine at UCLA) was my field experience and knowledge of organisms. My husband, Bill, whom I had married at the beginning of my sophomore year in college, is especially intrigued with the diversity of life. Taking advantage of the natural marvels of California, we took field trips to the rocky intertidal, to the deserts, to the mountains, to mudflats, to the coastal redwoods, and to the marches, finding and identifying the animals, plants, and fungi in each. Bill did most of the work in identifying the organisms, using guides and taxonomic keys; I absorbed the knowledge from him." Betsy Gladfelter from her book Agassiz's Legacy
